1. Who can enter: The competition is open to residents aged 16 or over of the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man, except for employees of Specsavers and Kidscape, their families or anyone professionally associated with the competition.
2. How to enter: To enter the competition, entrants must fully complete the online entry form and include a recent picture of themselves wearing glasses and submit to Specsavers. Entries can be submitted via the Spectacle Wearer of the Year website (specsavers.co.uk/loveglassescomp or loveglasses.specsavers.co.uk) or Facebook page (facebook.com/specsavers), and will only be included in the competition if received by Specsavers after 00.01am 26 March 2018 and before midnight on 1 July 2018. Specsavers accepts no responsibility for entries that are lost, delayed, corrupted or not received for any reason. Late or inappropriate entries will not be accepted. Proof of transmission will not be proof of receipt. Only one entry per person. No purchase is required.
3. Consent: By entering the competition:
3.1. all entrants give their consent to their names being placed on a list of winners and being made available in accordance with clause 6.5.
3.2. All entrants give their consent for their entries and names to be placed on Specsavers’ social media, including but not limited to its Facebook page.
4. How the competition works:
4.1. First round: all entries will be screened and a judging panel will shortlist entrants, based on a number of criteria, including their appearance in glasses, from each region and each age category (16-24; 25-34; 35-44; 45-59; 60+) before 29 July 2018 (the “Shortlisted Entrants”).
4.2. Second round: the Shortlisted Entrants will be invited to attend a Specsavers store for a photocall at a time and date of Specsavers’ choosing (the “Regional Finals”). The judging panel will select one entrant from each age category from the Regional Finals based on a number of criteria, including their general performance at the photocall, before 7 September 2018 (the “Finalists”).
4.3. Social media round: Specsavers shall pick 10 entrants that were not selected from the Regional Finals in accordance with clause 4.3 above, to enter into competition on Specsavers’ Facebook Page (the “Social Media Competition”). The Social Media Competition will run in September 2018. The entrant with the most likes from the post on the Specsavers Facebook page will go through to the Third (the “People's Choice Finalist”) and the entrant with the most likes from Facebook adverts will go through to the Third round (the “Facebook Favourite Finalist”).
4.4. Third round: the Finalists (along with a finalist from Ireland, the People's Choice Finalist and the Facebook Favourite Finalist) will be invited to attend the Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards 2018 (the “Awards”) in London on 24 October 2018 and will need to be available that day and the day before the Awards to take part in preparations. At the Awards a final winner from the UK (including the Channel Islands and Isle of Man), Ireland and social media will be chosen by a panel of judges, based on a number of criteria, including having a strong overall marketability, their appearance in glasses and general performance, to be crowned the Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2018 (the “Overall Winner).
5. Prizes: The Overall Winner wins £10,000 and a £1,000 eyecare voucher to spend at a nominated Specsavers store*. The prize is not transferable and there is no cash alternative.
The finalists will win for themselves and one guest (all guests must be aged 16 years or over and under-18 finalists must be accompanied by a parent or guardian) a trip to London to attend the Awards. The trip includes return economy travel by rail or air to and from London plus a two-night stay (on 23 and 24 October 2018) at a four-star hotel on a bed and breakfast basis. The finalists will receive a style makeover before the Awards. Each finalist will receive a Specsavers goody bag, including a £125 Specsavers eyecare voucher*.
The Shortlisted Entrants at the regional photocalls will be presented with a Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2018 regional and age category certificate, a bottle of Champagne (if 18 years or over) and a £125 Specsavers eyecare voucher*.
*Vouchers are not to be used in conjunction with any other Specsavers offer, limited to prescription glasses only, and subject to all other terms and conditions printed on the voucher
6. Personal Data
6.1. Personal data obtained in the process of the competition will be used for the purposes of administering the competition and will be held by Specsavers and its subsidiaries and holding companies and any subsidiaries of its holding companies (the “Specsavers Group”) either manually or electronically. The information will be restricted to authorised users only and treated in the strictest confidence.
6.2. Specsavers may provide the personal data to the following third-party providers: Indulge Media Limited (www.indulgemedia.com), Beattie Communications Group Limited (www.beattiegroup.com), The Target Marketing Group Limited (www.targetgroup.co.uk), Freshwater UK PLC (www.freshwater-uk.com), J Comms (jcomms.co.uk), Wilson Hartnell Public Relations Limited (www.wilsonhartnell.ie) and United Communications Limited (www.unitedhosting.co.uk) (the “Third-Party Providers”), in connection with the competition and for the purposes of, including but not limited to, the maintenance and organisation of the Spectacle Wearer of the Year website or Facebook page, reviewing competition entries, judging, the administration and/or organisation of Regional Finals and the redemption of prizes.
6.3. Personal data may be held by Specsavers, the Specsavers Group and the Third-Party Providers, for a period of up to 18 months after the closing date of the competition (01 July 2018).
6.5. All winners’ names will be available on request by writing to Specsavers Optical Group Limited (address below) after 24 October 2018 and all winner’s names will also be publicised by Specsavers.
7.1. The promoter is Specsavers Optical Group Limited, La Villiaze, St Andrew’s, Guernsey GY6 8YP (“Specsavers”).
7.2. The judges’ decision at each round of the competition will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
7.3. Winners will be contacted within seven days from the relevant decision date. Winners will be required to participate in publicity, including any advertising/PR campaigns in the 18 months after the Awards.
7.4. Specsavers reserves the right to disqualify, appoint a replacement and/or reallocate prizes if entrants cannot be contacted, are unable/not willing to take part or breach any of these terms.
7.5. No cash alternative is available for any prize. Prizes are subject to availability and Specsavers reserves the right to alter or substitute any of the prizes with a prize of a similar value. Specsavers will donate £1 to Kidscape for each eligible online entry form received.
7.6. Submission of the online entry form is deemed acceptance of these terms.
7.7. In consideration of providing the competition, each entrant grants a worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual licence to Specsavers to feature any or all of the submitted images and images taken of the entrant in connection with the Competition, in any publications and/or in any promotional material connected to the competition including all online, social media and additional platforms owned or utilised by Specsavers. Images are not returnable.
7.8. Specsavers reserves the right to hold, void, cancel, suspend or amend the competition or these terms where it becomes necessary to do so.
7.9. Insofar as is permitted by law, neither Specsavers nor its agents will in any circumstances be liable to any entrants. Nothing shall exclude Specsavers or its agents from liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence.
7.10. The competition and these terms are and will be governed by English law and all parties agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England.
